Using the library
Libraries in Seinäjoki and Eepos libraries
The Seinäjoki Public library offers library services in the main library as well as Nurmo, Peräseinäjoki and Ylistaro branch libraries. There are also two mobile libraries, a library at the Keski-Nurmo school and Kyrkkäri library in cooperation with the hospital district of South Ostrobothnia. Check the opening hours of the libraries. Some libraries have self-service hours when there are only limited amount of services available or no staff present at all.
Seinäjoki Public Library is a part of Eepos library consortium. You will only need one library card to check out material from the libraries of 22 municipalities. You can also check the availabilities of books and other material of all those libraries from Eepos web library.
You can get a library card from library or mobile library. You have to give your name and address for the library database. You will also need to present your photo ID, for example pass or driver’s licence. Under 15 year-olds have to get consent from a parent or a guardian to get a library card. First library card is free of charge. You can use it in all the Eepos libraries.
The library card is personal and must be presented whenever you borrow or reserve material. You are responsible for all material borrowed on the card and also all the material borrowed on the card of under 15 year-olds whose parent or guardian you are.
If the library card goes missing please notify the library immediately to prevent misuse. You are responsible for the borrowed items and fees until the card is reported lost. A new card replacing a damaged or lost one costs 3 €. You will need to present photo identification to get a new card.
When you use self-service issues, you will need your library card and a PIN code. You can get the PIN code from the library. The password is not given by phone or e-mail. The staff can also check out your loans and then you don’t need the PIN code.
Loan periods and renewals
The loan period is usually 28 days. Below you can see the exceptions.
– Blu-rays and DVDs
– board games and console games
– marked bestsellers
You get a receipt of your loans with the due date printed on it. You can also check the receipt for any charges on your card. If desired, you will receive a notification of an upcoming due date by email 1-5 days before the due date. Customer is responsible for his/her loans even if there is a technical problem with the reminder service. Therefore all possible overdue payments and fees regarding the situation are valid.
Returning loans, overdue fees
Loans must be returned by the due date. There is a delivery service for books and other material between Seinäjoki library and other Eepos Libraries. The service is free of charge so you can return a loan from an Eepos library to any other Eepos library. You can ask for further information about the service in the library.
Material that is returned via drop box is on customer’s responsibility. Items that are returned when the library is not open will not be discharged until the next opening day. Items returned in the drop box can result in overdue payment until the returns are discharged.
Using the library is usually free of charge. A fee will be charged if a borrowed item is lost or damaged or a loan is returned or renewed after the due date. Damaged or lost material must be compensated. No late fees are charged for material borrowed from the children´s and youth section.
The fine for overdue material is 20 cents per loan per day starting on the third day after the due date. The maximum fine per item is 3 €. If your overdue fees have amounted 7 € or more your borrowing privileges will be suspended, until you have paid the fees and/or returned or compensated the overdue items.
You can make a reservation on material that is on loan or available in some library and choose the library you want to pick it up from. You can get the pick-up notice by e-mail, SMS or letter. The last pick-up date is on the notice. Reservations within libraries of Seinäjoki are free of charge. A fee of 1 € will be charged if you don’t pick up your reservation or notify the library that you don’t need it anymore. Transportation fee for regional reservations from other Eepos Libraries is 2 €/item.
The library’s register of customers is used only to monitor borrowing and returning. Information of a customer is not given to a third party without customer’s permission with the exception of debt collection agencies. Library has a right to register the users’ identity number.
